Australia and New Zealand Babywearing Week 2012: Carrying on traditions using the oldest parenting methods

June 4, 2012 By Johanna Baker-Dowdell Leave a Comment

Parents already convinced of the benefits of babywearing will help educate new and soon-to-be parents about this ancient practice during Australia and New Zealand Babywearing Week in October.

This year marks the third national celebration of Australia and New Zealand Babywearing Week. It will run parallel with International Babywearing Week from 8-14 October 2012, following the theme “Carrying on Traditions”.

Babes in Arms, babywearing specialists and founders of Australia and New Zealand Babywearing Week, initiated the celebration in 2010 to raise awareness about the benefits of babywearing. The week of activities also demonstrates how modern parents can enjoy peaceful and active post-baby lifestyles by using baby slings and carriers, the oldest parenting tools known to mankind.

I have interviewed some amazingly inspiring women about how they make businesses work around their family. Grab your copy and get business advice from a team of these 20 successful business owners:

Business & Baby on Board is Shaping Up Nicely

December 7, 2011 By Johanna Baker-Dowdell Leave a Comment

You may have heard me mention my book, Business & Baby on Board, before now, but it’s time to be more specific.

Until recently Wiley was considering publishing the book, but decided the fit wasn’t right so I am now self publishing it. I plan to launch the book around Easter next year.

I have interviewed some amazingly inspiring women about how they make businesses work around their family. These interviews are now finished and I’m about to get stuck into the writing phase with a vengeance.

While that is happening I wanted to share the list of women who have been generous enough to share their stories with me:

Counterfeit Baby Carriers Threaten Children’s Safety

November 3, 2011 By Johanna Baker-Dowdell Leave a Comment

ERGObaby carrier

Despite a campaign to raise awareness of fake baby carriers over the past two years, an illegal and dangerous trade in counterfeit products continues in Australia via online auction sites.

Counterfeit copies of the popular ERGObaby carrier have been offered for sale on online auction sites and authorised Australian and New Zealand distributor Babes in Arms is trying to stop these products reaching unsuspecting consumers and endangering babies.

Babes in Arms director and mother of four, Anita Lincolne-Lomax, sources the best baby slings and carriers from around the globe to build an expansive babywearing range that promotes a baby’s natural desire for closeness, but solves a parent’s need to be hands-free.

“Safety is a paramount consideration for parents when they’re buying baby products. These baby carrier copies are very convincing, and even the most discerning buyer could be fooled,” Anita explained.
