In this modern age, the trusty and reliable post office is at risk of becoming obsolete, however Australian business owner Peter Harris has other ideas by sending traditional printed letters electronically.

Docsaway is a PDF-based solution that is ideal for businesses wishing to automate or outsource the mailing of their paper-based documents from a number of locations throughout the world. It’s printed letters – an old school form of communication – being sent in a faster, easier and in a more modern way.

It seems right that Mr Harris set up such a business and has an interest in the changing nature of the service as he has a family history in the postal industry. He comes from a long line of postal workers which started before in the 19th century.

“My ancestors have been providing postal services in Maidwell, a Northamptonshire village in the UK, since the advent of the Penny Post in 1840, starting with a Thomas and Mary Goode,” Mr Harris explained.

“The family link ended after 120 years when my aunt, Dorothy Dixon, closed the Maidwell post office in the 1960s, however our link with the postal service resumed with the creation of L-Mail in 2003,” he added.

Although Docsaway is focused on sending documents via the Internet, the focus is still on a traditional style of communications.

With increased speed of delivery and lower cost for international mail, Docsaway offers many benefits for sending printed mail.

Docsaway is a product of the Central Coast business QiQ which was established by Paul Hamlington and Mr Harris. The service enables businesses and individuals to send mail and documents via 30 worldwide locations through a simple web interface.

“We are keen to increase awareness of our services in the UK marketplace and we believe the resemblance to traditional ways of sending mail and the cost savings will be the solution businesses are looking for,” Mr Harris explained.

Docsaway, together with L-Mail, operate collectively from 30 locations throughout the world. Together, Docsaway and L-Mail form the boutique Internet consultancy QiQ Communications.

L-Mail is an HTML-based solution providing the necessary tools to help turn an email into a letter.

The US Postal Service is struggling to survive, but Australian Peter Harris is joining the push for US businesses to write more letters through his electronic posting service Docsaway.

Just this week the US Postal Service announced it would close more than half its mail-processing centres in a $3bn cost-cutting drive, resulting in 28,000 job losses http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-16037668

Docsaway is a PDF-based solution that is ideal for businesses wishing to automate or outsource the mailing of their paper-based documents from a number of locations throughout the world. It allows businesses to have the sincerity and genuine nature of a letter, without the fuss of actually going to the post office.

Traditional post offices are often now viewed as outdated, slow and costly. Posting a letter involves not only a financial outlay, but also the cost of personal time. The efficiency and reliability of the postal service is no longer guaranteed and people are looking to other methods for communication.

“It is a shame to see such an institution as the post office clouded with doubt and uncertainty. Docsaway bridges the gap between the need for efficiency and the personal nature of receiving an actual letter,” Mr Harris said.

“I recognised the potential for an affordable mail service that combined traditional mail with the speed of the internet at a time when many of my friends were without an internet connection,” he explained.

The post office’s problems stems from pressure on revenue and costs. As any computer user knows, the internet has revolutionised the way people and businesses communicate. As a result we are sending far less conventional printed mail.

“We’ve been sending paper-based documents via our mail services every day since 2003. Our systems rarely miss a beat – we check our servers every five minutes to keep our reliability promise,” Mr Harris offered as the solution.

“We are keen to increase awareness of our services in the US market and we believe Docsaway with its cost savings is the change US businesses are looking for,” Mr Harris said.

The US postal service is currently running a campaign titled, “Save the U.S. Post Office: Write A Letter”. Quite simply, the more letters written, the more chance the post office has of surviving – and who doesn’t like receiving a letter (as long as it’s good news)?

Docsaway does not discourage people from writing and sending letters, but instead offers a solution to maintain this art in an efficient way via the internet.

“Write a letter, send it through Docsaway via our safe and secure service, and still embrace traditional postal and mailing services,” Mr Harris urged businesses to do.

Docsaway, together with L-Mail, operate collectively from 29 locations throughout the world. Together, Docsaway and L-Mail form the boutique internet consultancy QiQ Communications.

The 42-year-old ‘I’ve been everywhere man’ visited Birdsville to complete his unusual mission, which was originally fuelled by a desire to appreciate the sheer size of Australia and to raise awareness and money for The Fred Hollows Foundation.

Mr Harris said although his final drive to Birdsville brought a great sense of achievement, he was equally sad that his great journey across Australia had come to an end.

“I had mixed feelings about travelling to my last destination. I’m excited about finishing what’s been an excellent adventure, but I am now looking for a further excuse to explore parts of Australia not mentioned in the song!” Mr Harris said.

“There have really been too many destinations to pick an out and out favourite as everywhere has its unique story to tell.”

“That said, I particularly enjoyed visiting Oodnadatta because of its remoteness, Captains Flat with its claim of having the longest bar in the southern hemisphere and Dorrigo with its newspaper still printed on traditional letter press printers.”

“I also remember in December 2009 looking forward to visiting the Flying Doctor museum in Cloncurry, Queensland, after an epic 1000km drive only to find it was closed December through January. I just joked to myself ‘I’ll just pop back February!’”

Mr Harris ticked off town number 93 after visiting Oodnadatta, one of the most remote towns in Australia located over 1000km north of Adelaide. Although it was the second last location on Mr Harris’ list, it is also the first town named in Mack’s song.

“Apart from raising awareness of a great cause like The Fred Hollows Foundation, this trip has taught me a lot about appreciating our small town history. Unless these towns are your final destination, it’s likely you’ll travel straight through without too much thought.”

“But if you stop, look and listen, there’s so much out there to learn about our country’s past and present and the experience is going to stay with me forever.”

The ‘I’ve Been Everywhere Man’ will conclude his journey next week to coincide with the famous Birdsville Races. You can track his progress on that trip, read about past trips or donate to The Fred Hollows Foundation by visiting his website www.ivebeeneverywhere.com.au

Mr Harris is the managing director of Docsaway and used the service to deliver printed letters to global customer while not in his NSW office.

Docsaway, together with L-Mail, operate collectively from 29 locations throughout the world. Together, Docsaway and L-Mail form the boutique internet consultancy QiQ Communications.

Online communication is the emerging trend of the 21st century, however some businesses are returning to printed letters and cards after feeling their communication with clients and customers had become less personal.

Docsaway is a retro communication solution for businesses and entrepreneurs, offering the easiest and simplest way to deliver printed letters around the globe in a timely way.

A PDF-based solution, Docsaway is ideal for businesses wishing to automate or outsource the mailing of their paper-based, or snail mail, documents from a number of locations throughout the world.

Docsaway users have greater control over the look and feel of their printed communications, and all mailings will be on time, within budget and secure through Docsaway’s PDF password protection.

Managing director Peter Harris highlights the Docsaway service assures reliability for its customers in a global marketplace. Mr Harris said he saw a need for such a service and created Docsaway with his business partner Paul Hamlington.

“I recognised the potential for an affordable mail service that combined traditional mail with the speed of the internet at a time when many of my friends were without an internet connection,” Mr Harris explained.

“We’ve been sending paper-based documents via our mail services every day since 2003. Our systems rarely miss a beat – we check our servers every five minutes to keep our reliability promise.”

And Mr Harris’ family tree suggests he would inevitably be working with a business closely aligned to postal services, as he comes from a long line of post office operators since before 1840.

Mr Harris strongly emphasises the importance of having multiple print locations around the world, to offer such a service as a global platter.

The concept of snail mail was largely considered obsolete, yet is becoming a potent tool in new communication strategies.

According to Evan Duxbury, snail mail is not a thing of the past. “As it stands, mail is perfectly suited to making introductions with big clients, getting past stubborn gatekeepers and making memorable first impressions,” he said.

While many marketing experts might believe email is the latest and most effective trend in communication, consider this: with an estimated 247 billion emails sent per day, your chances of getting noticed are not too high, especially when contending with the fact that 80 per cent of them are spam.

Snail mail is something more than a hastily written message online; people appreciate the time that has been taken, so it reaches places email cannot and has physical persistence. Docsaway provides the vehicle to make that impression.

Docsaway, together with L-Mail, operate collectively from 29 locations throughout the world. Together, Docsaway and L-Mail form the boutique internet consultancy QiQ Communications.

L-Mail is an HTML-based solution providing the necessary tools to help turn an email into a letter.

It’s the road trip of a lifetime. Peter Harris, from the Central Coast of New South Wales, has travelled from Adelong to Yeerongpilly, visiting every location mentioned in the famous song, ‘I’ve Been Everywhere’, in an effort to raise funds for the Fred Hollows Foundation.

From ghost towns to the nation’s capital, Peter has travelled through 89 destinations, with Darwin one of the final four on his itinerary. He will arrive on November 29 and leave again on December 3, sampling the Top End’s attractions in between.

“I’ve never been to Darwin so I am really looking forward to this part of the journey,” Peter said.

“I aim to visit every location by the end of the year, but I’m taking my time. I am enjoying getting to know each town and learning more about Australia in the process.”

All donations received during Peter’s journey have gone directly to the Fred Hollows Foundation. Peter even used his business, the online letter delivery service L-Mail, to keep in touch with friends, colleagues and the foundation whilst travelling

“I am passionate about the work of Fred Hollows,” he said. “He was not simply a skilled eye surgeon, but a champion of human rights and social justice. The Foundation is particularly devoted to Australian Indigenous health and I hope to be able to raise funds to support this aim.”

In 1962 Australian Geoff Mack wrote the lyrics to “I’ve Been Everywhere”, a song listing 93 Australian destinations linked only by their ability to rhyme with each other. 48 years later, Peter’s adventure will take him to every Australian state, except Western Australia and Tasmania, and he’s loving every minute of it.

“I?m discovering just how big Australia really is and enjoying meeting new people in every township and city,” said Peter. “I’m delighted to be supporting an organisation like the Fred Hollows Foundation and, most of all, I?m looking forward to being able to sing, I?ve been everywhere, man, and to have actually been there and done it.”

Peter’s journey can be tracked, and donations made, via his web site at www.ivebeeneverywhere.com.au

It’s the road trip of a lifetime. Peter Harris, from the Central Coast of New South Wales, is travelling from Adelong to Yeerongpilly, visiting every location mentioned in the famous song, ‘I’ve Been Everywhere’, in an effort to raise funds for the Fred Hollows Foundation.

From ghost towns to the nation’s capital, Peter will travel through 93 destinations, with Coolangatta being number 54 on his itinerary.

“I aim to visit every location by the end of the year, but I’m taking my time,” said Peter. “I am enjoying getting to know each town and learning more about Australia in the process.”

Peter’s own web hosting and domain name providing business, QiQ, is funding the costs associated with his journey around Australia, allowing for all donations received to go directly to the Fred Hollows Foundation.

“I am passionate about the work of Fred Hollows,” said Peter.
