Christmas Gift List for Mumpreneurs

December 15, 2014 By Johanna Baker-Dowdell 4 Comments

GiftsIt’s 10 days until Christmas and you’ve been busy ticking off items from your Christmas list to make sure everything is perfect for your family’s festivities next week.

That’s great, but have you considered yourself in this equation? If you haven’t, it’s time to sit down with a tea, coffee or cold drink (or something alcoholic if that’s what’s needed) and pick something from this list for you. Yes, you!

Busy mumpreneurs should be rewarding themselves for everything they have achieved in 2014 and this list makes it easy to do just that.

1. Practice self care – the five minutes you’re taking to have a drink and read this are not quite enough. As Helen Butler from Clutter Rescue explains in her interview with Howard’s Storage World, self care could include booking in some time for a catch up with a friend, a facial at your favourite beauty clinic or reading something in the sun sans children. Watch Helen’s interview for more ideas (and some organisation tips too).

My self care picks are: Mary’s Skin Care, The Little Black Dress Project, Business & Baby on Board and Juice Plus.

Guest post: 10 Must Have Event Management Apps

November 18, 2014 By Johanna Baker-Dowdell 2 Comments

Event management appsGreat event managers were born with a keen eye for detail, creative flair and excellent time management and organisational skills. However, when you have 101 things on your to-do list, the phone just won’t stop ringing and you have back to back meetings with suppliers, it can be difficult to know where to start and how you’re going to get through it all.

Whatever the size of your event, here are 10 must-have apps that can help every event manager to stay on track with tasks, and work through that to-do list with ease.

1. Dropbox

With any event it’s inevitable that you will have a number of important documents – guest lists, booking confirmations, risk assessments… Using Dropbox means that you can sync all your important event documents across all your devices. Storing all of your important event documents online also means that they can be accessed by the rest of your team, meaning that no one is ever caught short without access to essential paperwork.

2. Evernote

Planning an event is a creative process – which means that you’re no stranger to having great ideas pop into your head at any time of the day; when you’re sat waiting for the train or before you fall asleep at night. Evernote allows you to gather all of those last minute ideas, handwritten scribbles or bookmarked websites together in one place. Evernote even has search functionality, so you won’t be caught short hunting through your notebook to show a client that killer idea.
