Business & Baby on Board named in ‘SMART 100’ Index

May 20, 2015 By Johanna Baker-Dowdell Leave a Comment

JBD with Biz Baby book LRBusiness & Baby on Board has been named one of Australia’s most innovative products or services, in one of the largest and most audacious innovation awards of its kind in Australia – the Anthill Magazine ‘SMART 100’ Index.

About Business & Baby on Board

Business & Baby on Board is the mum’s bible for starting out and succeeding in business. These women are mistresses of their own destinies with an armoury of skills that can be utilised while they are bringing up the baby.

The innovation initially came to life when author Johanna Baker-Dowdell’s blog posts about running her business, Strawberry Communications, around children attracted followers and comments, with readers asking for more content like this.

“I was encouraged to write the book Business & Baby on Board because while there were many books and guides to help people wanting to start a business from home, there wasn’t much available specifically to help entrepreneurial mothers,” Johanna explained.

Mumpreneur profiles the experts in ultimate guide to combining motherhood and business

August 2, 2013 By Johanna Baker-Dowdell 2 Comments

Vivacious Australian publicist and journalist Johanna Baker-Dowdell wrote Business and baby on board, a working mum’s bible for succeeding as an entrepreneur, over four years while juggling her own start-up and young family.

The book is filled with true stories and tips to provide inspiration to mothers who want to have it all: the family, the lifestyle, and the career.

It features case studies and advice from 20 high profile businesswomen, including Boost Juice founder Janine Allis, Red Balloon founder Naomi Simson, writer Kaz Cooke and Carman’s Kitchen founder Carolyn Creswell.

Johanna’s own heart-wrenching story of how she overcame a health scare which threw the family and her writing and public relations consultancy Strawberry Communications into crisis mode is a standout among the case studies.

My book, Business & Baby on Board, will be going to print very soon and I have just a little bit of time left to sell the last ads in the book for those businesses savvy enough to know business mums are a discerning bunch.

The Huggies MumInspired Report (March 2011) revealed 70% of women thought more about starting a business since becoming a mother.

10 Things They Don’t Tell You About Crowdfunding

November 15, 2012 By Johanna Baker-Dowdell 1 Comment

I recently ran a crowdfunding campaign on Pozible to raise the money I needed to self publish my book Business & Baby on Board. The campaign was a success (in fact it was overfunded), and it came with 10 lessons that I’m going to share with you here.

1. Do your research to find the right crowdfunding platform. In deciding whether or not crowdfunding right for my project I discovered many crowdfunding platforms including Kickstarter, iPledg and Pozible. Some are perfect for start-ups, others are great for IT projects and some, like Pozible, specialise in creative.

August 8, 2012 By Johanna Baker-Dowdell Leave a Comment

Business & Baby on Board

I have just signed up Business & Baby on Board as a crowdsourced project with Pozible and the project is now live for funding. Have a look at the book project here.

I am signing the first 500 copies of Business & Baby on Board sold if you want to secure a pre-sale copy, so head over to the ‘Books’ tab at Strawberry Communications and buy one copy for $25, or two for $40.

After a long time writing, the end is finally in sight and I can see the finished product of Business & Baby on Board in my hand.

I am very close to handing over the manuscript to my editor, and once I do that the paperback version of the book is just weeks away. So, I think it’s about time to start offering pre-sales of the book.

I have interviewed some amazingly inspiring women about how they make businesses work around their family. Grab your copy and get business advice from a team of these 20 successful business owners:
