Many business owners are shutting up shop for Christmas today and won’t be back at their desks until the New Year, but this can actually be a great time to generate PR.
Media outlets are still running throughout the festive season and although editions of newspapers and magazines may be smaller, journalists are still looking for stories. And we all know the Internet never sleeps, so online media is as hungry for content as ever. What does this mean for you as a business owner? Your PR machine should step up a gear!
Not only is the media actively looking for festive angles on stories, but there are other opportunities to get your name out there. Here’s some to consider:
- Does your business have a Christmas or New Year angle, ie your business is making last-minute home deliveries on Christmas Eve, you produce specialist cakes that are only eaten on New Year’s Eve or you have a different take on the popular New Year resolutions stories
- Is your business seasonal and you only open over summer (in the Southern Hemisphere or winter in the north) so this is your busy time?
- Can you take a festive national story and localise it for your region?
Another point to remember is the regular journalist you deal with may be on holidays over Christmas and New Year, so this could be the perfect opportunity for you introduce your business to a new contact.
Enjoy the festivities and be on the look out for PR opportunities everywhere.
