Leonie Dawson is not your average million-dollar business owner. She has green chalked hair that matches her flowing, mismatched clothing. She swears. A lot. Her presentation bullet points are pretty pictures and she advocates all things hippy.
But all these things do not matter when you have the successful ingredients to run a successful business. And Leonie has that in abundance. Leonie happily shares how she grew her business from $30,000 turnover to $1 million last year; and how she plans to double that amount to top $2 million this year.
I live-tweeted Leonie’s tips from last night’s presentation and then collated them on Storify, but my three top take homes were:
1. Invest in education – I’ve always believed in education, but am truly seeing the results after putting personal development at the top of my list in the past few years.
2. Join a mastermind group – I’ve been a member of several mastermind groups over the years I’ve been a business owner and have written about it too here and here. However, I think it’s time to step it up a gear. Who’s with me?
3. Do what you were born to do – We each have things we’re great at and each have our own paths. Why isn’t there more of combining the two so we create the change we want to see through our businesses and passions to live truly fulfilled lives?
While these tips are not new to me (I’ve heard them many times before last night, from many different people), Leonie’s message reinforced why it is important to find your place and do the thing that only you can do. I wanted to share this lesson with you so you could think about what that thing looks like in your business.
So what are you doing today to drive your business forward?
