Marketing is most effective when targeted at the right person and this means you need to understand very clearly who that person is.
There will always be others who buy your product or service, but there is only one ideal customer. This is the person who doesn’t question price, they just buy – and they tell others about your business.
So how do you find out who this person is? Fill in the demographic questions below to find out:
• Gender
• Age
• What is their name?
• Marital status
• Do they have children? If yes how many, how old, boy/girl?
• Location
• Education
• Employment
• Hobbies – cafes, park, gym, travel etc?
• Where do they shop?
• What is important to this person?
• What problems will your product or service solve for them?
Once you have put together this demographic profile you should have a very clear person in mind. It might help to find a photo that fits this profile to bring your customer to life.
Now you know who you are marketing to, ask yourself how this person will respond every time you think about sending out a newsletter, writing a blog, or posting a tweet or video. Will they like what they read or see? Will it get them to click through to find out more and will it encourage them to hand over their money?
So, who is your ideal customer?
