Creating Cakes (Almost) Too Good to Eat

July 23, 2009 By Johanna Baker-Dowdell 1 Comment

There is something deliciously decadent about a hand-crafted cake – and Sharon Wee knows the best ingredients to use to ensure an edible work of art.Sharon owns and runs Sharon Wee Creations in the heart of Sydney, crafting cakes, cupcakes and cookies that taste divine and look incredible.

Her yummy creations are not just for weddings or christenings though. Sweet tooths will back her up when Sharon Wee says there is no occasion where a hand-crafted cake isn’t a welcome addition.

“Buying one of my cakes isn’t like popping down to the local bakery for a cream-filled sponge. I create beautiful and special works of art for all occasions,” Sharon explained.

“Everyone knows a wedding cake is a must as it forms the centrepiece of the event, but my customers come to me for something special when they are planning a kitchen tea, hen’s night, anniversaries and birthdays.”

Unlike so many cakes that look beautiful but are dry when you cut into them, Sharon Wee Creations cakes are baked using only the finest ingredients so they look – and taste – fantastic.

Cakes are usually vanilla or chocolate mud, however Sharon can bake variations to suit her customers, such as jaffa or lemon. She also creates the decorations, such as flowers, butterflies and intricate designs, by hand so each cake is unique.

“A hand-crafted cake isn’t created just to look at. My cakes are baked from scratch and make luscious desserts,” she added.

“I always use fresh eggs, butter and quality chocolate. I put a rich layer of ganache underneath my rolled icing to help keep the cake fresh, but it also makes the cake taste even more delicious,” Sharon explained.

Each Sharon Wee Creations cakes is made to order, with Sharon spending time with her customers to ensure she has a complete understanding of the event, recipient’s hobbies and the event theme and colour scheme.

“There is a lot of time and work involved in creating my cakes, but when I see my customer’s faces once the cake is assembled I know the effort was worth it.”

After consulting her customer Sharon sets to work creating cake designs and offers a range of options, to suit all budgets. Based in Sydney city, Sharon Wee Creations operates throughout Greater Sydney and her pricing includes delivery and assembly (or pick up can be arranged for some creations).
