East Arm Resources (EAR) will expand its quarry operations by more than 200 million tonnes and create new jobs in Tasmania’s North-East following approval from George Town Council.

A leader in the extraction and processing of quarry resources for the civil, environmental and shore protection markets, the East Arm Quarry near Hillwood can extract up to 2.5 million cubic metres of material per annum.

EAR’s expanded capacity will create up to 40 new full-time jobs and enable the East Tamar operation to meet growing demand both in Tasmania and offshore.

The business already has two significant orders to supply 185,000 tonnes of scour rock off the north coast of Western Australia and 23,500 tonnes of asphalt aggregate to resurface the Wallis Island runway, east of Fiji, in 2026, general manager John Bell-Andrews said.

We are excited about the opportunities this expansion presents, both for our company and the surrounding community. The expansion will enable EAR to continue to provide the local community and the Bell Bay precinct with high-quality quarry product, and significantly expand our export operations, said Mr Bell-Andrews said.

EAR adheres to stringent environmental standards and sustainable development principles, including monitoring air and water quality, strictly controlling noise and dust emissions and ensuring the habitats of rare and threatened species are preserved.

We are committed to responsible resource management and collaborating with Tamar Valley communities and stakeholders to ensure that our operations reflect our dedication to environmental stewardship, Mr Bell-Andrews added.

Bell Bay Advanced Manufacturing Zone (BBAMZ) Chief Executive Officer Susie Bower said EAR’s growth would benefit the Bell Bay and wider Tamar Valley communities.

BBAMZ has supported EAR as it expanded operations and employed our community. It’s businesses like EAR that enhance our region’s reputation for supplying high-quality products, Ms Bower said.

Minister for Business, Industry and Resources Felix Ellis will attend EAR, 1 East Arm Rd, Hillwood, on Wednesday (11 February) at 9.20am to inspect operations and speak to the media.
