“Only when it is dark enough, can you see the stars.” ~ Persian Proverb
Weeks after the floods that devastated Queensland’s Lockyer Valley, residents are finding the strength to look up to see the stars, not look down towards the mud, buoyed by the support of their families, friends and strangers who have banded together to help.
The Constellations project, initiated by photographer Tanya Love and supported by Australian businesses, will result in the production of a beautiful glossy calendar, the proceeds of which will all go towards rebuilding Grantham and nearby townships.
“There are many examples of fundraising efforts being made to assist those who have been affected by the floods, and all of these efforts are to be commended. We are proposing another idea, that we hope will be far reaching, and a more permanent reminder of January 10, 2011,” Tanya explained.
The 16-month calendar will include photos taken by Tanya in the days after the floods, depicting people putting their lives back together and overcoming the adversity the floods threw in their way.
“The focus will be on strength, courage and love, rather than the destruction and devastation the public has become accustomed to,” she added.
Each photo tells an inspirational story of individuals and families and will serve as a reminder of the true Aussie spirit.
Organisers are looking for support from the following businesses:
• National distributor to ensure the calendar is available in all major outlets around the country
• Advertising
• Corporate sponsors
All proceeds goes to the flood-affected families of the Lockyer Valley, encompassing the communities of Grantham, Withcott, Helidon, Millmerran, Esk, Postman’s Ridge, Lowood and Murphy’s Creek. Grantham Flood Support is the charity organisation that will receive and arrange distribution of these funds (ABN: 23304576187).
