Find the treasure hidden in the pages of www.yourkids.com.au and win a web overhaul for your school.Your Kids children’s activities and directory website is launching a cyber treasure hunt on 1 October, and invites everyone to take part. The prize is a new or revamped website for the winning school.
Busy mothers of two children each, Your Kids founders Melissa Moran and Vicky Hamilton-Gibbs set up the online resource to help parents, grandparents and caregivers find child-related activities, products and services in one place.
“In our busy lives it’s so much easier to do research online, especially when a single website has everything you’re looking for,” Melissa explained.
“The site is something we would use, so we knew it would work for other busy parents as well,” she said.
Treasure hunters will need to find three Your Kids icons in three of the Top Categories listed on the home page in their state. To vote for your school register for the Your Kids monthly newsletter, list the three category pages where the icons are located and your school’s name. Each registration equals one vote.
“We find a lot of our information for our families online, including researching schools. We know how important a good website is to any organisation that wants to stand out from competitors, but schools often don’t have a big budget or the time needed to invest in a truly effective website,” Melissa said.
“Your Kids Treasure Hunt is a great way for communities to get behind their local school and win a website that will showcase the school in the best light. The winner will be based on the greatest percentage of votes for the school’s population so small schools will not be disadvantaged,” she added.
Schools will need to register their details and number of students via the Your Kids website to be eligible for the prize. The winning school will be based on the greatest percentage of votes per school population, i.e. if a school has a population of 300 and receives 150 votes the amount will be 50 per cent, but if a school has 100 students and receives 80 votes then it will have 80 per cent.
A leader board will be displayed on the Your Kids website so schools can monitor their progress. The Your Kids Treasure Hunt will run until 7 December, with the winning school announced on 8 December.
