The dedication of mental health carers will be recognised at Connections of Care, a special event to be held in Ravenswood on Wednesday (October 17).
Organised by Mental Health Carers Tasmania and supported by Ravenswood Neighbourhood House as part of National Carers Week, Connections of Care is a community festival which includes lunch and activities to celebrate those who care for friends, family members and neighbours.
Those attending can join drumming, Tai Chi, dance and art activities, plus admire the posters created by local school children for the day, Mental Health Carers Tasmania Executive Officer Wendy Groot said.
She described carers as, “people who provide unpaid physical, practical or emotional support to a family member, friends, neighbours or colleagues”.
“Carers do an amazing job in supporting our community members who have mental illness and Connections to Care is one way we can show how important these people are,” Ms Groot explained.
“This event has been organised to show carers they have our support and gratitude for everything they do. It will be a fun day for the community and we hope will be the beginning of many friendships,” she added.
Connections of Care will be held at the Ravenswood Neighbourhood House, 6 Prossers Forest Rd, Ravenswood with the ceremony beginning at 11am followed by lunch.
