Mind Gardener and Oprah Connect in an Impressive Meeting of the Minds

October 19, 2010 By Johanna Baker-Dowdell Leave a Comment

What would you be willing to give for a one-on-one interview with Oprah? Mind Gardener founders Martina Sheehan and Susan Pearse have thought seriously about this question – and put a price on the answer.

The pair behind the life-changing Mind Gardener guides are willing to put up $25,000* to secure time with Oprah and the money will go to the person who gets them the plum interview.

So why would two successful business owners do this? “Imagine the impact on our environment, our relationships and our quality of life if we lived in a world of mindful people making mindful decisions,” Martina suggested.

“We believe that mindfulness is the most important skill for this and future generations. Not only can we all experience the joy of living a mindful life, but together we can change the world,” she said.

Martina and Susan believe this message should go out to as many people as possible. Oprah can help them do that. And she’ll be in Australia in December. Launch the Meeting of the Minds Campaign!

The four Mind Gardener guides – The Great Relationship Guide, The Living Happy Guide, The Bump to Baby Guide and The Clear Mind Guide – show people how, by cultivating their mind, they can move beyond simply surviving to thriving.

“Everyone is a mind gardener,” Susan explained.

“Everything you think, learn, see and do changes your mind and your life. By cultivating a healthy mind, you can live with happiness, love, clarity and purpose.”

“Oprah is recognised for encouraging people to live mindfully and we know she believes in the power of hope, so we want to share with her – and her audience worldwide – how we can build a mindful world, one mind at a time,” she said.

For individuals who don’t think they can help Mind Gardener to meet Oprah, here’s how they can still make a difference:

1. Direct others to the Meeting of the Minds campaign at www.helpusgetontheoprahshow.com. Through the law of 3 degrees of influence, someone will know someone who can achieve the result.

2. Follow the Facebook campaign at Mind Gardener’s page: http://tinyurl.com/2condtb

3. Send the message out on Twitter using the #oprahcampaign hashtag

And if they get on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Martina and Susan will share their good fortune by donating $1 from every guide sold for the next 5 years to a charity, foundation or not-for-profit nominated by the public. “We’d like people to tell us which group they feel is most aligned to our purpose of cultivating mindfulness, and we’ll build an enduring partnership with that group so we can change the world together,” said Martina.

Martina and Susan have created the Mind Gardener guides by drawing on emerging brain research and translating it into simple, practical and relevant activities that people can put into action every moment of their life.

They were inspired to develop the Mind Gardener guides when they sponsored the US-based Mind & Life Institute at the Investigating the Mind conferences in 2003 and 2005. Martina and Susan met His Holiness the Dalai Lama of Tibet at the 2003 conference – another great meeting of minds.
