I learn helps get kids off to a great start for the new school year and was featured in the AU App Store’s ‘Great Kids Apps and Games’ and ‘Best New Apps’ lists within days of release. I learn is aimed at children aged 3-8 years who are starting school, kinder, preschool or childcare for the first time, as well as those transitioning between classes.
A new school year is heavy on change, with Bizzibrains owner Nic Lansdell saying I learn helps prepare children through fun activities, games and self-awareness.
“I learn is all about helping kids enjoy the transition into a new class. It’s about getting familiar with your teacher, with getting yourself ready for school (I couldn’t resist getting kids to make their own bed in the app!), with the idea that learning is fun and that it’s ok to feel and share many different emotions,” Nicola, whose daughters aged five and three are starting school and kinder respectively this year, explained.
“We play tested I learn at Lady Gowrie in Victoria with children starting kinder or school in 2015. Seeing their smiles and hearing their hands clap when they finished the game of I spy, wrote their name or got a stamp for the numerical problems made me so happy,” Nic added.
Conversations about something significant like starting school can be hard to begin, but I learn is a great medium for kids and their parents to share ideas about the place where they learn, child psychologist Dr Kate Enderby says.
“I learn prompts a discussion about kids’ thoughts and feelings, which gives parents the opportunity to address any worries that their child may have. The playground scene is a lovely opportunity for kids to consider various social situations, and ways of making friends. I learn is a fantastic way to address some of the social and emotional aspects of learning and a useful tool for developing interpersonal skills!” Dr Enderby said.
Early reviews of I learn have been positive, with Smart Apps for Kids saying: “Both my 7 year old daughter and I were immediately in love with this well-designed app… It’s creative, interactive, fun and educational. What else could you want in an app designed for kids 3-8 years old?”
Bizzibrains launched the storybook app I imagine last year, which has since been read more than 3 million times. I imagine encourages independent, imaginative play in pre-schoolers as they put themselves and other characters in the story, recorded their names, took photos and chose hair and clothing.
Similar to I imagine, children using I learn put themselves in the story as they get ready in the morning (dressing, making the bed, brushing their hair and packing their bag) and play a board game to get to class on time. I learn also includes fun educational activities (I spy, maths problems tailored to the child’s age and helping their character join games in the playground) designed to foster a love of learning.
“The pages are full of educational and social activities. Starting school is as much about being prepared socially as educationally. I learn helps kids with that, with features including a playground page and opportunities for children to select coloured faces to express how their character is feeling.”
Bizzibrains’ I learn is available on the App Store for $4.99.
