Note-a-Cause Program Raises Money and Awareness for Charities

September 9, 2009 By Johanna Baker-Dowdell Leave a Comment

Queensland personal card specialist Noteable Designs has launched a community-minded program to raise money and awareness for small charities called Note-a-Cause.

Noteable Designs offers three products that increase awareness of allergies and special needs – Allergy & Alert Cards, Family Contact Cards and the ID Me range. Sales of any of these products will result in a $2 donation to a worthy charity.

A different charity is selected to benefit each month, with Backpacks 4 Aussie Kids chosen to kick off the Note-a-Cause program in September. Backpacks 4 Aussie Kids is a non-profit volunteer group, which donates and collects items to fill backpacks and nappy bags for children going into foster and kinship care.

Noteable Designs director Maree Evans said children often had no time to collect belongings when taken into care, so Backpacks 4 Aussie Kids provided a bag for them.

“It can be extremely traumatic for a child to be taken into care, often without any notice, so it’s nice for them to have a backpack of clothes, a blanket and a soft toy to help them cope in a difficult time,” Ms Evans said.

The Note-a-Cause program was developed to build awareness of the community-minded products Noteable Designs sells and to raise money for small charities at the same time.

“Each of these products serves an important purpose and offer a quick and convenient way to convey important information. Having such information available in an easy-to-read format could make all the difference during an anaphylactic allergic reaction, or if a child was lost at the Easter Show, for instance,” Ms Evans said.

“It is not unusual for children to have an allergy or specific need, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, where they would need assistance, however it would be impossible for people to know the correct response for every potential situation. Our cards give parents confidence knowing the important information a teacher, police officer, paramedic or friend’s mother would need to help their child is available,” she explained.

Noteable Designs’ Allergy & Alert Cards details the child’s medical information and important details on a business-sized card. These cards can be used as a quick reference whenever the child is away from their parents, such as at day care or sleeping over at a friend’s house.

The ID Me range of identification cards are personalised for each child and designed to be worn on a lanyard or attached to clothing or backpacks with a retractable zinger. Cards include information that would be needed in an emergency, such as name, address, parent contact details and special needs.

Family Contact Cards are business-sized cards displaying all contact and important details, such as phone numbers, address, email, birth dates or medical information, in one place.

Noteable Designs is looking for further charities to support for Note-a-Cause and invites the public to tell them of suitable worthy causes, no matter how small.

“We will support each cause for a month to ensure we cover a diverse range of charities. We aim not only to raise money for these causes, but also to raise awareness through our support,” Ms Evans said.

“To do this effectively we need the public’s help in spreading the word about Note-a-Cause and the charities we support throughout the program,” she said.
