Connect2Mums is Heading to New Zealand

September 24, 2010 By Johanna Baker-Dowdell Leave a Comment

Owners of the successful Australian online business networking site Connect2Mums, Peace Mitchell and Katy Garner, are bringing their community to New Zealand.

Already well established in Australia and with some NZ members, Connect2Mums is looking to expand in New Zealand by inspiring Kiwi business mums to succeed in their entrepreneurial goals.

Queensland sisters Peace and Katy have been busy after the network’s annual conference in Brisbane in July organising the first Melbourne event on October 20 and growing the online community.

They will be in Auckland for the Parent and Child Show between October 29 and 31, which provides a perfect opportunity to meet NZ business mums – and those who aspire to be.

Peace and Katy will be helping out Aquabub owner Helen Macmillan on her show stand and speaking about Connect2Mums to expo attendees.

“We already have some NZ members who have been spreading the word about Connect2Mums, but we thought it was time to visit and extend the network even further,” Peace explained.

“Connect2Mums is a friendly and supportive network designed for women who run a business around children. Our members share their experiences freely and often do business together,” she said.

Besides the online networking opportunities, Connect2Mums has separate online interest groups for discussions on health, blogging, business and other topics. The site provides members with opportunities to interact and socialise with other mums across Australia and New Zealand, such as Friday night live chats, newsletters, product reviews, events, competitions and articles.

Peace and Katy will be at the Auckland Parent and Child Show from October 29-31. Come and visit the stand, or drop in online to see the network yourself.

Connect2Mums provides a safe and supportive environment for women with online businesses to get together and share information, network and gain support.

Melbourne business woman and winner of the prestigious 2010 AusMumpreneur of the Year accolade Antonette Golikidis is one of a list of high-profile speakers who will inspire business women in Melbourne next month.

The Little Innoscents owner will speak about how she set up this international business from her kitchen bench around her young son and what the award means for her business in the future.

After the success of the annual conference held in Brisbane in July, Connect2Mums owners Peace Mitchell and Katy Garner designed the Melbourne Mumpreneurs One-Day Conference to be packed with successful business women who combine doing business with being a mum.

“We have put together a fantastic line up of speakers for our Melbourne event and can’t wait to meet in person all the talented women we know online,” Peace said.

“It is so exciting for Connect2Mums to expand from our online community and we love seeing members motivate each other with their amazing stories about business and life.

“Connect2Mums is such a friendly and enthusiastic network, we can’t help wanting to take it from the online space and meet members in real life. This is going to be a fantastic day full of great information, fun, chocolate and networking,” she added.

The event at Rydges Melbourne on October 20 will showcase a number of topics affecting not just women in business, but also working mothers. Some of these topics include social media, systems, branding, PR and the media and product launches.

Other speakers include Alycia Edgar of bookzkeeper, Sam Mutimer of Thinktank Media, Rebecca Derrington of SourceBottle and Dannielle Michaels and Monique Filer of b.box.

The speakers will not only share their own experiences as case studies for attendees, but also offer advice and tips on having it all in business and life.

Tickets for the Melbourne Mumpreneurs One-Day Conference are $160 and can be purchased at http://www.eventbrite.com/event/795922626/efbnen

Rise of the Mumpreneur

July 22, 2010 By Johanna Baker-Dowdell Leave a Comment

A new type of entrepreneur is on the rise in Australia, combining their business pursuits with family life. They are mumpreneurs.

Mumpreneurs are successful, confident and innovative entrepreneurs who choose to be self-employed operating a business from home, while caring for their children and families at the same time. They need to be innovative, professional, have great time management skills and flexibility and many women, like Queensland’s own Peace Mitchell and Katy Garner who run online community Connect2Mums, are finding success in this new industry.

Taking time out from running the Connect2Mums community conference and associated AusMumpreneur Awards to be held next week, sisters Peace and Katy want to share their entrepreneurial success with other mums.

“Connect2Mums provides a safe and supportive environment for women in online businesses to get together and share information, network and gain support,” Peace explained.

“The site provides members with relevant information and opportunities to interact and socialise with other mums across Australia and New Zealand, such as Friday night live chats, newsletters, product reviews, events, competitions and articles.

“These are professional women who value their time with their children, but are also highly ambitious and want to feel successful as businesswomen. They believe that when it comes to success in career and in family you can have it all,” she added.

The Connect2mums Mumpreneurs Conference and AusMumpreneur Awards are another way that Peace and Katy support, celebrate and acknowledge the achievements of Australian and New Zealand women in business, as well as men who combine business and family life.

These exciting events provide the opportunity for women from all over Australia to come together to gain new skills, connect with fellow mumpreneurs (and some brave dadpreneurs), be inspired by leading business experts and celebrate the success of the best and brightest in the industry over three days.

The AusMumpreneur Awards take place at a glamorous event at Rydges, Southbank, Brisbane on Saturday, 31 July. These awards are the only events of their kind in Australia and will be officially opened by Hon Karen Struthers MP the Minister for Women, with Queensland premier Anna Bligh recording a video message for the event.
