Barefoot Power launches new portable, integrated GO systems

Barefoot Power’s latest product release, the portable Barefoot GO solar system, launches this month offering an exciting new option for homes and businesses to increase access to renewable energy in developing countries.

 

The Barefoot GO is a portable unit, so it can be used as a torch, ceiling or wall mounted. Barefoot GO lights can also be reversed in the stand and used as a wall washer light, Barefoot Power CEO Rick Hooper explained.

 

“Barefoot Power has been developing solar powered solutions for communities off the electricity grid since 2005. The market has grown with Barefoot Power through several product iterations now and our latest offering is our response to a more sophisticated consumer market,” Mr Hooper said.

Barefoot Power Listed in 2011 Global Cleantech 100

Australian social enterprise Barefoot Power is thrilled to announce its inclusion in the 2011 Global Cleantech 100, announced at 10am this morning (Australian EDT).

 

The Cleantech Group compiles an annual list of the most promising private cleantech companies globally, listing those it expects to make the biggest impact on clean technology in the next 5-10 years.

 

Barefoot Power Global Marketing and Business Development manager Joyce DeMucci was in Washington, USA, for the announcement as part of the 2011 Global Cleantech 100 Summit and Gala.

Barefoot Power is Australia’s ‘Coolest’ Business

Barefoot Power was named 2010’s Coolest Company at Anthill Magazine’s Fifth Annual Cool Company Awards last week, topping off an extremely successful year for the social enterprise.

Taking out the Social Capitalist category in which it was a finalist, Barefoot Power was then chosen as the Coolest Company from the eight category winners.

The national awards program was developed in 2006 to recognise Australian companies that are doing things differently to bring about positive change – something Barefoot Power was solely set up to achieve.

Barefoot Power Wins in G-20 SME Finance Challenge

Social enterprise Barefoot Power was one of 14 winners in the G-20 SME Finance Challenge, recognising the important work it does in providing lighting solutions in developing countries.

Barefoot Power formed an innovative trade finance fund with Dutch microfinance investor Oikocredit and the European Infrastructure Fund to offer short-term loans to help SMEs sell microbusiness solutions designed by the company, Barefoot Power founder Stewart Craine explained.

“This ‘Venture Debt’ model allows SMEs and micro-entrepreneurs to grow quickly from start-up level through successful sales, with 100 per cent growth rates often achieved in the first 6-12 months,” Mr Craine said.

Barefoot Power’s African Lighting Project Wins International Award

Australian company Barefoot Power was one of two winners at the first CTI PFAN Africa Forum for Clean Energy Financing in September.

The forum, organised by Climate Technology Initiative’s Private Financing Advisory Network (CTI PFAN), aimed to bridge the gap between clean energy project developers and investors and was held in Johannesburg in September.

Businesses, including Barefoot Power, showcased projects with an investment value of US$110 million covering biomass, hydropower, solar, wind and bio-fuels initiatives from across Africa.
